Priorities
Fair Pay for Educators
The Problem: Union County recently ranked 37th in the state for local teacher supplements, and recent budget disputes left teachers with only half of the requested $2,000 increase. Evan’s Goal: I will fight for the full $2,000 supplement increase to ensure we stop losing our best teachers to neighboring districts. Our educators deserve a salary that reflects their value to this community.
Fiscal Accountability & Collaboration
The Problem: Public bickering between the Board of Education and County Commissioners over budget "misrepresentations" has slowed progress for our schools. Evan’s Goal: I will bring a level-headed, legal approach to budget negotiations. I’ll work to mend the rift with County Commissioners through clear, data-driven transparency, ensuring our requests are fully funded without unnecessary political theater.
Supporting the Whole Student
The Goal: Academic excellence starts with mental health and safety. I will advocate for increased funding for school counselors and social workers to ensure our students have a strong support system from the moment they step onto campus.
Planning for District 6 Growth
Our corner of Union County is growing rapidly. We must ensure our infrastructure—from classroom technology to facility renovations—keeps pace with enrollment so our students never have to learn in overcrowded or outdated environments.
Protecting the Freedom to Learn
The Issue: Across the country and right here in Union County, we've seen an increase in efforts to remove books from our shelves and limit the topics our teachers can discuss. These "culture war" distractions don't help our students; they only serve to polarize our community.
Evan’s Goal: I will stand firm against book bans and political censorship. Our libraries should be places of discovery, and I trust our professional librarians and educators to select age-appropriate, high-quality materials. I believe in a "freedom to learn" approach that prepares our students for a diverse, global world by teaching them a complete and accurate history.
Safe & Inclusive Schools for Every Student
The Issue: Public schools must be a haven for every child. We've seen rhetoric that targets specific groups of students—particularly our LGBTQ+ youth and students of color—making them feel unwelcome or unsafe in their own classrooms.
Evan’s Goal: I will advocate for policies that ensure every student in District 6—regardless of their background, identity, or zip code—feels safe and supported. This means supporting robust anti-bullying programs, maintaining inclusive curriculum standards, and ensuring our schools comply with federal protections that prevent discrimination. We cannot achieve academic excellence if our students do not first feel they belong.
